Well other than being atrocious at keeping up with my blogging, she says 9 days later oopsie, I have made some progress on my 83 day quest, in all areas, albeit a little slowly!!!
Some quick stats;
I gained 1lb and lost 3lb
I've raised another £50
I ran the Jane Tomlinson 10K in 1:08:24
However, I have also drunk my bodyweight in cider and done very little training. So uber training is now going to kick in, i'm now on no booze at all, no take aways and a proper training schedule until the big race.........she says hopefully :-)
A journey of half-marathon training, weight loss and charity fundraising. Starting on Day 1 as an overweight, partial couch potato who has a passion to succeed...and help fight cancer!

Day 24
Money raised so far;
£125
Money still to raise;
£375
Finally, finally, finally - I prepared all my meals today, but it made me realise how far off the beaten track I had been swaying as I was hungry all day pretty much :-( however, I did manage to stick to it until I got abducted to the cinema to see Bad Teacher (not so awesome), which ended in 1 strawberry cable and a small popcorn!!
Netball night tonight, but no playing for me as I was getting assessed to become an umpire - eeek!! Although it wasn't as strenuous as actually playing, I did work up a little sweat and.......I PASSED woop woop, qualified umpire baby, yay!!! Ooooh and I also utlilised my friends wisely by quizzing my physio friend for sore foot advise :-))) Just need to get myself to Boots now for some strapping!!
Another £10 raised today on my on-line sponsorship page - thankyou Nikki and Ian!!

Day 23
Again, another unplanned meal day and so ended in a cafeteria lunch. Eventhough I tried to choose a healthyish option, it still ended up in massive portion of (very unlean lasagne). I have discovered the most awesome tea though of pasta, tomatoes and cheese - completely satisfies my junk craving, it's awesome :-)
I made the mistake of playing rounders tonight!! It was nice to get out and do a bit of exercize (even if it was in the rain and hosted by a mud field!!) after my long week of being sedentery but made my foot loads worse again. However my next 10K is only 12 days away so I need to sort it out quick sharp so I can get my training in.

Day 22
Spent the whole day studying, studying, studying today, which of course meant no diet and plenty of snacks. I did try my best to stick to it, but eating smaller and more frequent portions. It all seemed to be going ok until - oh fish and chips for dinner then is it?? It was also celebration night with someone passing their exam, so off to the pub we went 'just for one beer'.........5 hours later we set off home, drunk and hungry - ending in a midnight chinese.....oopsie!!!!
No time for exercize today and my foot is still really sore :-(

Day 21
Dustance run;
5.01K (32:38)
Total distance run;
XXXK (XXX)
Thankfully over my hangover from hell, which was a good job as it's RACE 4 LIFE day, wooooop!! Got up nice and early to prepare myself for the race, all dressed in pink and a hearty cereal and banana breakfast - I was ready to kick some ass!!!!
Lovely atmosphere at the event with lots of happy people raising lots of much needed money and pink for as far as the eye could see. So after getting into my 'joggers' category, we set off - lots of people watching and clapping.......but less than 2 mins in and I was ready to kill someone!!!! The 'joggers' group and people are pushing wheelchairs and walking and generally getting totally under my feet - aaaaaarrrgh, took me forever to get going!! I know it's for charity and a fun day out and all that, but i'm trying to be good at running aswell!!!! Anyhoo, I ended up with a better time than last year, so i've improved but was disappointed in my time, I was really hoping for an under 30 mins :-(
My foot was still a little sore from my Monday run, but knowing I could loose sponsors I ran it anyway......possible school boy error though, it was killing after i'd finished - dam my easily breakable body!!!
Diet wise hmmmm not so good, yet again, but not too far from the beaten track - really need to get better organised with my food i'm getting far too easily swayed with deliciously bad for me alternatives!!
Oooooh and tonight we've signed up to do the Cancer Research Shine event in London. I'd never heard of it before, but it's an all night walk around London and we chose to do a marathon distance (instead of the aternative half marathon). I'm very excited about this event, it should be a really lovely way to see London and of course an extra excuse to dress up :-) although I'm under no illusion whatsoever that the actually walk will be a real challenge, I think walking a marathon is no mean feet, but with the added extra of being pretty cold and then take away a night's sleep aswell. I think it'll be really tough, but really rewarding at the same time.
So now not only do I need to be fit enough to run a half marathon and raise £400 in the meantime, I then have 2 weeks to be ready to walk a night marathon and raise whatever money anyone has left to give......will have to get my awesome fundraising ideas hat on :-)

Day 20
A better day than was anticipated after the previous night's drunken shenanigans. Having said that, it was spent moaning and groaning on the sofa. So, fish and chips for dinner then, she said enthusiastically :-) but knowing I was on a diet I did it the healthy way, bought from the shop and oven cooked.....even gave myself a diet portion, which I was chuffed about, with a nice mullerlight for pudding. Tea was not so successful, as it ended in yet another chinese, but I have been chosing a chow mein to try and keep the portion size down - yes, that's right I could only eat half of it and save the other half, except for the problem that i'm a born gluten, so anything on the plate gets scoffed!!! No snacking though, she says desperately trying to claw back some diet brownie points!!!
Again no exercize, maybe due to my still poorly foot, or maybe just due to the fact I was a lazy, hungover twit!!!

Day 19
A slightly less boring day today, but still full of hardwork and sore footedness. However all training and healthy eating went straight out of the window with a birthday party that ended in me being a giant drunken mess, with no memory whatsoever!!
That is all!!
That is all!!
Day 18
Weighing in at;
13st 8lb
Weight lost this week;
1lb (6lb total)
So, my foot's still sore and i'm still limping about :-( tonight was my last netball match of the season for my other team - definitely not a good week, sports wise for me :-(
And yet another boring day of stressful report writing and procrastinative trips to the shop. Not only was it not a good day sports wise, it was also not a good day food wise as I gave into my junk food craving for chinese. I was hoping it would taste really greasy and awful and put me off for ages......it didn't, it was delicious and I enjoed every mouthful of it!!!

Day 17
Money raise so far;
£115
Money still to raise;
£285
Another stagnant day for me, with my stupid not getting any better foot :-( my last netball game of the season tonight and I have to miss it :-(
After a boring day full of boredom and yet more boredom I was tempted into getting a chinese for tea, but when I realised I didn't actually want one and that I was just feeling sorry for myself, I managed to save both my waistline and my pennies - the tea I had was much nicer aswell :-)
Mother is still soldiering on with the fundraising!! I think maybe I should pull my own finger out with it anytime soon, I just need this dam report out of the way and then I can really start to get the ball rolling.

£297
So apparentely I hurt my foot in last night's run, which totally sucks ass :-( I thought it felt sore when I was on my route, but didn't really think much of it as running generally hurts me everytime I go out. When I got home it really stiffened up and I was struggling to walk on it, just in time for a week with a rounders game, 2 netball games and race for life in it, aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggghhh!! Well that's one sporting event down, I had to cancel the rounders tonight due to lack of players, which is good that I didn't miss it but does mean trying to round the troups up another night instead, which is getting increasingly frustrating!!!
Mother is absolutely kicking my ass on the money raising front, she's up to £88 for her sponsored diet - woop woop!! Although when she told me she was 'up to 88 pounds' I did wonder what she was on about for a minute, before assuming she'd suddenly become anorexic and had lost 88lbs - d'oh, oopsie!!!

Day 15
Distance ran;
10.69K (1.13.06)
Total distance ran;
35.74K (4.10:18)
So after spending the whole day sat in the same chair, I was irritated, bored, lethargic and generally not enjoying my day whatsoever.....and then I returned home to the gentle words of 'shall we go for a run?' I knew then that my day had hit yet another low, but as I have a challenge to conquer I had of course to begrundgingly say yes. So tonight we tried something new, he thinks I run too slowly and does a lot of moaning about my pace, so tonight he gave me a 12minute head start and then tried to catch me. I think this tactic was also supposed to spur me on to try and not 'get caught', but instead I just felt myself doing constant mental arithmetic, calculating the time and distance when he would catch me up!!!!! I was, of course, 'caught' but was quite proud of running the full distance on my own and non stop....albeit it still a little slow :-(
Delicious food today, a lovely tuna, lettuce and olive sanger for my dinner, but unfortunately no tea :-( after my run I was cooking tea and then really suddenly felt really sickly and got a really bad headache, so I went for a lie down to try and get rid of it, but ended up falling asleep for the evening!!

Day 14
Hmmm so this weekend has not gone well for me in any respect, well other than to get drunk and eat indulgent foods - which was actually totally awesome, but not exactly helpful!!!!! A new noodle bar in town just had to be tried, which was deeelicious, but crazy fool fruitfingers ordered the large portion, which was miles to big even for the piggy me - a defo lesson to be learned from this......big is not always best!!!
No exercize, well other than another lovely (maybe 1 hour) walk to the sinful noodle place and no money raising either........I think I need to regroup my (far too) easily swayed focus back to the task in hand!!

Day 13
Money raised so far
£65
Money still to raise
£335
Mother is doing well with her sponsored diet for my plight, losing 4lbs in less than a week - that sounded far too fast to me, but then she let me into her little secret of pie-ing up before she started.....naughty mother!!! However pie or no pie, she's still got another 8 weeks to go and has raised £50 so far - keep up the good work mother :-)
On the diet front for me, definitely NOT a good day - it began with a bacon buttie and went downhill from there!!!!! I had a little scone at a local festival, a lovely hot chocolate in a lovely tea room and then ate tea out at my friend's house, which began non diet friendly and ended with strawberries, cream and homemade shortbread - phenomenally tasty, but not exactly helping myself (except to another piece of shortbread!!!) with the weight loss.
No exercize today, well other than a nice (about an hour) walk in the sunshine.....and thunderstorms!!!

Day 12
Distance ran
9.68K (1.17:10)
Total distance ran
25.05K (2.57:12)
Went into uni again today to try and get my dam report finished, I can't wait for the stupid thing to be handed in I hate the stupid thing and the stupid thing is really stressing me out - I have more important things to spend my time on.....like fundraising for example!!!!!
Struggled with food again today, my own fault though, I didn't make a plan at the beginning of the week so have been improvising from the previous week, however without a proper plan this line of attack is never going to end well. Creamcake? Sure why not, i'll substitute that for a ryvita and humous, i'm sure the calories will be near enough the same!!!!!!!!!!!
Went for a run tonight and finally managed to do a longish distance of 9.68K, which makes me nearly back on schedule. I did it pretty slowly, (my slowest time yet) but felt good all the way around, except for my toes!!! My new awesome nike trainers were a MASSIVE let down for running, they were far too heavy which meant I was dragging my feet and my toes were completely numb after about K number 3......lesson most definitely learnt there. Anyhoo, on the slowness thing it did mean that I spent longer exercising, longer on my feet - so although it wasn't too fast, I proved I can exercise for longer even if it was at a reduced rate!!

Day 11
Weight
13st 9lbs
Weight lost this week
0.5lbs
Total lost
4.5lbs
A good start to the day with a nice little weight loss, only half a pound but it's still headed in the right direction so can't complain!! Feeling alot better today, but nevertheless had a lazy day of recovering anyhoo, just to make sure I didn't overdo it :-)
Another night of netball tonight, our penultimate match of the season :-( after a horrific downpour and arriving resembling a semi drowned dog.....we lost, but there were only 6 of us and we played pretty well as a team - I had a terrible game though and felt miserable at the end, makes me feel really deflated if I don't play well :-(
Also gave into temptation tonight with my first take-away since the diet began - uh-oh! I don't know if I made a good menu choice, but our shopping has been seriously lacking these last few weeks; no money and no food in the cupboards, so a chinese was a nice change from weird concoctions of anything we have left!!!

Day 10
After spending the morning at uni, I wasn't feeling too good today, getting migraines and very achey eyes :-( I visited the quacks who gave me some antibiotics, fungers crossed for those getting to work quickly.
Although I stuck to my diet today, I struggled with hunger and junk needs - not enjoying the day in general......and then I had a rounders match!!! I went in jeans so I didn't have to play and I could sit and feel sorry for myself.....except not enough people turned up, so little miss grumpy and head achey had to step up. We didn't win and I didn't get any happier......on a more positive note, I didn't snack and I did manage a smidgen of exercize!! Early night to put this suck ass day behind me....!

Money raised so far

With a horrendously late night and a way too early rise, I wasn't in the best of moods.........until 'knock knock', well hello there new trainers!!! Oh God, they're soooo beautiful :-)
Another day of delicious foods and i've still not been (overly) tempted to stray from the beaten track of my new food regime, so far i'm actually quite enjoying it, it's definitely made me realise how much I was eating before and now becomes quite apparent why I continued to put on weight regardless of how healthy I ate - because you eat portions big enough for a pregnant dinowhale, that's why!!!
Again no running for me today, but it was netball night so can't be too cross with myself!! I played 40 minutes in mid court positions aswell, which made me work REALLY hard - the sweat that came off Nadal in that final had absolutely nothing on me tonight!! Although i've not played for a few weeks and they're not my usual positions, I really tried to push myself because playing such a fast paced sport will be a great way to get my fitness level up :-) .........and we won, woooooop, only by 1 but a win is still a win!! Oh and the new trainers.......very comfy and looked very beautiful AND for the first game in at least 2 years, my heels didn't hurt afterwards :-)))) however, I did keep having to take them off at every break as I couldn't feel my toes.....:-(
After my pushy advertising on FB i've got my first 2 sponsors for my challenge; £5 and £10, which are both greatly appreciated and a step on the ladder to my £400......thankyou Quinny and Bex!!

Day 8
Quite a boring day today, challenge wise, I think.
I appear to have really gone off my running schedule already. I'm down to run Mon, Wed and Fri each week increasing the intensity as it goes. But after my poor week of little running and a bag of bad attitutude, I did extra at the weekend to play catch up, but then needed a day off to recover yesterday.....aarrggh vicious circle!! Oh well, I figure if I make it 3 times a week, then it might not be ideal but at least i'm getting the prep miles in - she says, hopefully!!
I felt a bit poorly today :-( my eyes have been really achey and also felt a bit sick - it was very similar to a couple of years ago when I started getting migraines......fingers crossed that they aren't coming back again, because they are NOT welcome at my house!!
I've been struggling a little with the diet today, but not because i'm hungry or because the food isn't lovely, it's because I have to eat too much - who'd have thought it, oh please no more food!!!! Last week i'd been saving little bits of each meal, in case I got hungry later, but today i've been saving them and then not needing them later. I did however feel very appreciative for my ryvita snack at nearly 10pm, as I was attempting an 'all nighter' so the extra fuel was much appreciated :-)

Total distance run
15.37K (1.40:02)
Well I think the weekend must have done something good to me this week, because after another hearty omelette breakfast I went out for another run, woop woop!!!! I felt REALLY sore from yesterday, so decided not to push it too hard and just do the same route again. The distance logged is not too acurate though, as exactly the same route logged a difference of 0.19K, I know it's not too big a difference but that will start to build up over longer distances - dam you Nike sportsband!!! Anyhoo, the main thing about my run was that I did it 1min 25sec faster, which is great :-)
As a self confessed shopaholic I always want to buy something, anything and now with my new sporting challenge comes with an extra excuse to buy new things - hurrah!! I've always been a massive massive Nike fan, but some of their products can be quite expensive, so trying to be a bit more spending savvy i've tried other makes for both trainers and clothes. Unfortunately (for my bank account) the other makes come nowhere close to my love of Nike, the fit, the quality and the feel are all absolutely unchallenged, for me. After having found a discount store that stocks plenty of choices.........it's spending time :-) I've been really unhappy with my trainers for a while and after a number of bad purchases which have felt like wearing bricks, i've just tonight bought myself some new Nike trainers - not running shoes, so may regret the choice but i'm very excited for them to arrive so I can try them out, so I can hopefully be brick foot no more :-)
On the diet front, today went really well I had an absolutely delicious dinner, while watching the Wimbledon final, but felt quite lathargic afterwards so we went out for a nice walk, which ended in having tea out (uh oh). My portion was obviously not diet sized, but I didn't have a starter or any kind of pudding which I normally would.......however, the 2 bottles of wine were definitely not on my plan oopsie!!!

Day 6
Distance run today
6.27K (41.14)
Total distance run
9.29K (1.00:11)
After a lovely lie in, a lazy morning reading magazines and feasting on my delicious morning omelette - we had the parents-in-law aournd for a mini BBQ, which was lovely and relaxed. I also managed to abstain from eating my bodyweight in charcoaled meat, for once :-) I did drink too much caffeine though and felt really lathargic, so the choices presented to me were either a) watch the last episode of House or b) 'let's go for a run' hmmmmmmm, well i'm wasn't scheduled for one today and i'd rather have a nap (or indeed do most things) than go running, but i've not had the best week exercize-wise......so what the hell, let's go for it!!!
The sun was shining and the trainers were on, so off we went.......41.14 minutes and 6.24K later I got home, very hot, sweaty and absolutely shattered. I found it very difficult today, everything just felt really heavy and I couldn't find a rhythm at all......until tinie tempah shuffled through my ipod to save the day, although after being on repeat at least 6 times, it did get a bit annoying but really helped me push through today......thankyou Tinie :-)

Day 5
Current weight; 13 stone 9.5 lbs
Weight loss; 3.5lbs
Distance run; 3.2K
Well it looks as if mr bad attitude has moved in for the time being!! I was scheduled to go for a 10k run today but instead of getting out there and using my time wisely, I sat at home watching the tennis and drinking diet coke - although it was thoroughy enjoyable, it's not exactly the right route to be going down to be able to survive running 13.2 miles.
My food was superluscious today and even got my tea cooked for me, which made it even more awesome :-)
Nothing too exciting to report today......except my ultra special outfit - a xxl men's basketball vest, teamed with ugg boots and a hello kitty necklace :-) General boring stuff - the diet is holding up so far, however the training needs some kind of jet pack underneath it to get it going!!

Day 4
So we begin the day with my weekly weigh in, it's not actually been a week since I started my diet, but because i'm an idiot I set all the days wrong, so today it is!!!! Woop woop, 3 and half pounds off - sweeeeeeet!! What a lovely start to the day.......oops, spoke too soon!!!
As i'm coming to a pretty important deadline (non challenge related) my days are getting fuller and fuller with stress. I guess it doesn't help that i'm the world's biggest procrastinator, but report writing isn't exactly conducive to weight loss, exercize or a good general attitude. I tried my very hardest to 'stick to the plan' today, which I did for most of the day but then I couldn't take anymore and I broke - 'let's get a chinese' said the half-marathon training lady who is 4 days into a new diet!!!! But using that compromise thing, I tried yesterday, I decided to go for some instant meal thing from the shop, with a bag of carrotts.....don't I just know how to treat myself!!!! I was under my calorie allowance and it really satisfied my junk urge. Putting my report to one side (and nearly out of the window), I relaxed for the evening with some lovely shandy booze - it's a concoction I made myself, lager and diet coke (which I named a 'dirty boy') tastes not too different from a normal shandy, just lower in calories!!
No exercize on the plan today, it's more or less one day on and one day off, which I was very grateful for - the walk to the shop was enough for me today.
On the fundraising front, I managed to rope mother in on the action, who is starting a sponsored diet but is doing it all officially with a proper weigher and she's doing it at her school, so hopefully loads of people will sponsor her for my plight!! Go mother!!

Day 3
Hmmmm, well that seems to have been a record - i'm already losing it :-( my meals are now too small and because i'm now on a training schedule I don't want to do that either. It's like signing up for the gym all over again, you go for months on end and then as soon as you sign up for a cheaper deal, you stop going!!!! However I shall not be defeated so early on, she says loudly and repeatedly.
I was scheduled to go for a 6K run today, but as mr bad attitude was visiting I decided to sulk instead, which was obviously a much more productive use of my time!!!! So after having stern words with myself I decided to compromise and try out my new skipping rope instead........and there goes my first lesson in compromises - it was horrendous!!! I didn't manage to do it for very long becasue my skipping rope is lighter than an anorexic grass snake, so kept twisting up and being very annoying. So after my failed mini skipping workout, I decided to give Michelle (my DVD lady) another go - that lady hurts me :-(
My food was again delicious........but i'm starting to need my usual giganta portions. Starting to struggle now that my initial enthusiasm (that lasted all of 2 days) is beginning to wane.
On a more positive note, the idea that i've had for my fundraising are hopefully starting to come into fruition. My aim is to organize; a sports day, a massage day and a rounders tournament. But as time is definiately not on my side and the other trials and tribulations of life aren't going to stop for the next 12 weeks, it's not going to be an easy task. I have a venue for the massage and I have managed to rope in another 3 unsuspecting victims (oops, I mean volunteers), so a good start so far....now just waiting to hear back about a potential date.

Day 2
Well i'm sure I thought this would ever happen, but I put exercize before food - I managed to do my exercize DVD before breakfast!!! It's one I got a while ago (a previous occasion filled with good intention!) which is based on 10minute sessions, so you don't have the excuse of not having the time to exercize......so while I wasn't due for a run, I thought i'd blow the dust off the box and give it a go. All-in-all it was pretty enjoyable, Michelle (the DVD lady) was very encouraging but like superwoman fit, who can exercize AND talk at the same time, without breaking a sweat. I, on the other hand was soaked in sweat with burning muscles and looked like i'd just returned from a trek across the Sahara - it's all about baby steps, Michelle's uber tight abs will one day be mine!!
And so to my 3 course breakfast - very delicious, very healthy and very never ending. So far, all my food has been delicious, filling and i've also been free from any cupboard raiding urges......if you don't count my desperate need for wine gums!!
Early days still, but my chin is up, my belly is full and my training still on target :-)

Day 1
How my challenge came about......
I took part in the 5K race 4 life events for the past 2 years to raise money for Cancer Research UK, it's a cause close to my heart and wanted to do my bit for the charity. However after having seen how much pain cancer causes, my only criteria for finishing the races was that I had to run the full distance without stopping, no matter how slow. After having the initial bug for both fundraising and running I stepped it up to the 10K races and thought if I did the full series of 3 races I could ask for more money off people. However that bug keeps growing and now i'm signed up for a half-marathon, which is a massive step as it's double the distance and it also has a minimum raise of £400 for the charity. So this summer, i'm hopefully going to complete my half-marathon (without stopping) raise upwards of £700 (including the sponsors from the 10k races) and hopefully take off some weight while i'm at it, to try and make it a little easier on myself!!
(that's me in the Hull 10K....the worn out mess nearest the camera!!)
Previous races;
Race 4 Life 5K 2009 (Bradford) ~35minutes
Race 4 Life 5K 2010 (Hull) ~ 33minutes
Jane Tomlinson 10K 2011 (Hull) 1.05.50
Jane Tomlinson 10K 2011 (Leeds) 1.08.54
Training for half-marathon (following Nike training program);
3.02K (18.57 minutes)
Starting weight;
13st 13lb (following Tesco Diets)
Money needed to raise;
£400 (by 18th Sep '11)
So the journey begins, although not an ideal start with a very 'sociable' weekend and no food in the cupboards. However I am determined to do a good job of this task, so out comes the credit card and off to the shop I went. With newly stocked cupboards and my daily diet plan to hand....off we go.
After an afternoon nap and a mini heatwave, the last thing I wanted to do was go and exersize or eat another ryvita....but needs must! So on went my trainers and down went the ryvita. On my return, from what could only be described as more of a 'stop and breathe' than a 'run', I was red, sweaty and on the verge of what felt like death. But after a lovely shower and a delicious omelette for tea I was ready to take 'the bull by the horns'!!
